Landfill Gas Handling Control SystemProcess Description:

Landfill gas is drawn from the well field using (3) blowers on variable speed drives (VFDs). The blowers feed landfill gas to (2) 2000 CFM enclosed John Zink flares and to a pipeline feeding a local power generating facility. Wellfield pressure (vacuum) and flow to the flares are controlled with a unique cascade PID control loop modulating the designated VFD and blower speed based upon feedback from a wellfield pressure transmitter and the flare flow meter.

Landfill gas flow to the power generating facility is controlled using a feedback loop modulating a flow control valve. An on-line landfill gas analyzer provides continuous data to the PLC displaying and logging concentrations of methane, oxygen and carbon dioxide. The PLC logs all process variable data to a memory card.

Control system design including: P&ID, control panel wiring diagrams, point to point wiring diagrams, complete NEMA 4 control panel with PLC/touch screen HMI, remote IO, power supplies, surge protection, battery back-up, remote VPN link, (3) VFDs in NEMA 4 enclosures, (3) thermal mass flow meters, (2) pressure transmitters.  ES2 delivered, and installed all supplied equipment, terminated all wires and performed start-up and operator training.
